Year 1 children:
- Are interested, excited and motivated to learn
- Listen with enjoyment to songs, rhymes, stories and poems in English. By the end of the school year they can tell a simple story, name and sound the letters of the alphabet, read and write simple regular words, read simple sentences independently, write simple sentences using punctuation, attempt writing for different purposes (such as lists, stories and instructions). In math they study numbers up to 20 and beyond, 2-D and 3-D shapes, calculating, number facts and measuring.
- Produce beautiful artwork, sing songs, dance to the music, and expand their knowledge and understanding of the world.
